The steering wheel is hard, probably something on the hydraulic circuit (no idea if this translation is accurate) and the last thing I needed are extra expenses on a car I'm about to sell.

first check the fluid levels, then go lock to lock a few times to see if you pick up any assist over the range. If so it may be cavitating (has air in it), if not the pump might be shot. Low fluid would cause this as well.
Though if it has electric steering reset the ECU (disconnect both leads, click them together to discharge capacitors, reconnect) and see if it comes back, I know the later ones had an issue with this

I just dropped it off at my mechanic during lunch, shouldn't be fluid levels, I did a complete check-up last week to make sure it was in top shape before selling it.
